PORTO CERVO PAYS TRIBUTE TO PRINCE KARIM AGA KHAN IV

Porto Cervo’s Iconic Square Named in Honor of the Aga Khan

A historic day for Costa Smeralda and the entire island of Sardinia. On the afternoon of 9 July, the Municipality of Arzachena officially dedicated Porto Cervo’s iconic central square to His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the visionary founder whose extraordinary vision shaped the region’s tourism, architecture, and economic development.

Organized by the Municipality of Arzachena, the ceremony brought together an outstanding gathering of institutional representatives and a large audience of residents and visitors. Among those in attendance were Roberto Ragnedda, Mayor of Arzachena, Alessandra Todde, President of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, and His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, representing the Aga Khan family. They were joined by the leadership of Smeralda Holding as well as leading civil, military, and religious authorities, including the Prefect of Sassari and the Chief of Police.

A Square Dedicated to a Timeless Vision

The dedication of Porto Cervo’s central square follows another significant institutional tribute to Prince Karim Aga Khan IV: the naming of Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport in his honor. Together, these recognitions express Sardinia’s profound gratitude to a man whose legacy extends far beyond creating one of the world’s most exclusive destinations. Prince Karim Aga Khan IV played a fundamental role in developing strategic infrastructure, expanding air connectivity, creating employment opportunities, and fostering sustainable economic growth, while always preserving the island’s extraordinary natural landscape and cultural heritage.

Cerasarda Honors the Legacy of Prince Karim Aga Khan IV

Cerasarda was proud to participate in this landmark celebration, sharing a moment destined to become part of Costa Smeralda’s history. The ceremony welcomed numerous representatives of Italy’s entrepreneurial community and leading ambassadors of Made in Italy, highlighting the enduring connection between Costa Smeralda and the companies that have contributed to its international prestige. Among them was the Romani family, whose presence reaffirmed their long-standing commitment to promoting artisanal excellence and preserving the cultural heritage of Sardinia. Representing Cerasarda, Martina Romani took part in one of the ceremony’s most meaningful moments by presenting a commemorative artistic ceramic plate, specially created by the manufactory as a tribute to Prince Karim Aga Khan IV. Handcrafted in Cerasarda’s workshops in Olbia, the piece was conceived as an exclusive work dedicated to preserving the Prince’s memory. It embodies the company’s artisanal expertise, where traditional ceramic craftsmanship, contemporary artistic research, and Mediterranean identity come together to create a unique work of art designed to preserve and celebrate an extraordinary legacy.

When Ceramics Become a Symbol of Memory

Martina Romani’s gesture symbolically brought together two stories deeply connected to Sardinia: on the one hand, the vision of Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, who brought the modern Costa Smeralda to life; on the other, that of Cerasarda, a manufacturer that for over sixty years has told the island’s story through artistic ceramics, transforming every creation into an expression of authenticity, beauty, and tradition. Cerasarda’s participation in this celebration reaffirms its role in the region’s most important institutional and cultural events, contributing—through the language of art and craftsmanship—to preserve and pass on the values, history, and identity of Sardinia.
